BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (WLS) -- John Spinello, who helped invent the game Operation, needs help paying for a medical procedure for himself.

Spinello came up with a buzzing toy concept as a University of Illinois student in 1962.

The Bloomingdale man then sold the rights to his game to Milton Bradley for $500.

Spinello's friend launched a fundraiser on the crowdfunding website CrowdRise in hopes of raising $25,000 for his oral surgery.

So far, the effort has raised more than $16,000.
