MAHOMET, Ill. (WLS) -- A police officer was shot in Mahomet, Ill., about 12 miles north of Champaign, and the suspect is still on the loose.

Investigators say an officer and Dracy 'Clint' Pendleton started fighting shortly after a traffic stop Saturday night. Police say Pendleton pulled a handgun, shot the officer and ran into a house. He then returned with a rifle and continued to fire, they say.

Officers say Pendleton then took off in a pickup truck. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The officer that was shot suffered non-life threatening injuries.
