CHICAGO (WLS) -- A person was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer Monday night in the Homan Square neighborhood on Chicago's West Side.
The shooting took place around 8 p.m. in the 3400-block of West Grenshaw, according to Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Larry Merritt.
Chief Eugene Roy said officers spotted a car they believed was involved in an earlier shooting and began pursuing the vehicle. The pursuit led to the intersection of Homan and Grenshaw, where one of the suspects jumped out of the car and started running.
"During the course of that pursuit, led to an armed confrontation between the offender and the officer resulting int eh officer firing shots with his service weapon striking the offender," Roy said.
One person was shot, but their age, gender and condition were not known, Merritt said. No officers were injured.
Police said they recovered a gun at the scene. They did not say if the suspect fired any shots at officers.
