16-year-old girl dies after shooting in Washington Park home, officials say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teen girl died after a shooting inside a South Side home earlier this week and has now been identified, Chicago police and the Cook County Medical Examiner said.

The 16-year-old girl was in a home on Thursday in the 5600-block of South Michigan Avenue in Washington Park just before 7:10 a.m., when she was shot in the chin, police said.

She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

The medical examiner said she died on Saturday. She was identified as Harmony Mitchell, 16.

At last check, police said nobody was in custody. CPD Area One detectives are investigating.

CPD did not immediately provide any additional information about what led up to the shooting.

No other information regarding the victim was available.
