Peace walk to honor Tilden HS student killed in shooting

CHICAGO (WLS) -- People are gathering Thursday morning to remember an honor roll student who was killed.

Pedro Ramirez was on his way to Tilden High School when he was shot in the Back of the Yards last week.

Ramirez was 17 years old and an honor student. He was the soccer team's captain and played on the volleyball team.

Friends, family, and community members will join together in a peace walk Thursday morning to call for justice.

On May 26, according to police someone got out of a dark car near 59th and Throop streets and began shooting. The gunfire hit Ramirez and two older men who were sitting in a car.

Police did take one person of interest into custody, but they were later released.

Thursday's event is being organized by Increase the Peace Chicago, which develops young leaders and promote peace.

The walk starts 8:30 a.m. and begins at Tilden High School and will travel south to a vigil site for the teen.
