CHICAGO (WLS) -- One person was hospitalized after a large fire broke out at a high-rise building on Chicago's North Side on Friday morning.
Chopper 7 was over the scene near West Foster Avenue and North Sheridan Road in the city's Edgewater neighborhood around 6 a.m.
At least two firetrucks responded as firefighters doused part of the Wyndham Apartments, a 12-story residential building, with water.
Flames could be seen shooting out of a unit on the fifth floor as large plumes of thick smoke billowed from the building.
One person jumped from that floor and was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, CFD said.
Several other residents were checked out for smoke inhalation.
CFD said the flames were extinguished by 6:30 a.m. No firefighters were hurt.
Sheridan Road is closed in both directions between Foster and Berwyn avenues.
The CTA said #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express buses are temporarily rerouted via Berwyn, Sheridan, Bryn Mawr, Broadway and Foster, and #92 Foster buses are temporarily rerouted via Foster, Marine Drive, Lawrence, Broadway and Foster.
What started the fire was not immediately clear.
