7-year-old girl hit, killed by vehicle in northwest Indiana: coroner

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A 7-year-old girl was hit and killed by a vehicle last week in northwest Indiana, the Lake County, Indiana Coroner's Office said Sunday.

The coroner's office identified the girl as Kay'Lee Hawkins of Hammond.

The coroner's office responded to Munster Community Hospital just before 7:45 p.m. Wednesday after the girl was pronounced deceased.

The office said the crash happened in the 5900-block of Wallace Road.

An autopsy performed Thursday showed the girl suffered multiple blunt force injuries.

The Hammond Police Department and Hammond Fire Department responded to the incident.

Officials did not immediately provide any additional information about what led up to the girl's death.
