Police shoot, kill suspect in father's murder after chase from Plano ends in Aurora, ISP says
70-year-old man shot to death by son after apparent home invasion in Plano, family tells ABC7
AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- Illinois State Police are investigating a police chase and fatal officer-involved shooting in Aurora of a suspect who was wanted in a home invasion and homicide in Plano.

The family of a 70-year-old homicide victim told ABC7 that the victim's adult son was the suspect in the fatal Plano shooting who later died in the officer-involved shooting in Aurora.
Several police agencies were involved in the initial search for the suspect that began in Plano on Friday.

Just before 6:45 p.m., officials said deputies with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office responded to assist the Plano Police Department for a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street, the sheriff's office said in a release.
Officers discovered a 70-year-old man who had been shot multiple times inside a home at the location. He died from his injuries, Plano police said.
The victim was later identified by the Kendall County Coroner's Office as Russell Novak.
Novak's former wife told ABC7 Saturday that he was killed by their son Nicholas Novak, who was in his 30s. The deceased suspect has not yet been officially identified by authorities.
Responding officers found a car believed to be involved in the fatal shooting in the area. Police pursued the vehicle all the way to the area of Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora, where deputies and officers from multiple agencies encountered the armed suspect who had exited the vehicle, police said.
"Deputies and officers, facing a lethal threat, engaged the subject to protect the public and themselves," a news release read.
The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at a deputy, resulting in the deputy and a Plano police officer firing their guns and shooting the suspect, a Saturday afternoon update from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office read.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect, authorities said. The suspect was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora and was pronounced dead, according to ISP.

The Kendall County Coroner's Office will conduct a forensic autopsy on Russell Novak on Monday.
No officers were injured, police said. There is no ongoing specific threat to the public.
Plano police continue to investigate the homicide on Pratt Street, and Illinois State Police continue to investigate the Plano officer and Kendall County deputy-involved shooting in Aurora.
