Quick Tip: Pet scam alert

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Looking for a furry friend? Be careful. Pet scams are on the rise nationwide.

The Better Business Bureau says it's getting more reports fraudsters are using fake photos, videos and of course, AI to trick people out of thousands of dollars.

Scammers often post adorable animals online at bargain prices. But once you send money, the pet never arrives, or the scammer can lure you to an unsafe meeting spot.

Always see the pet in person or at least demand a live video call with the seller.

Before buying, do a reverse image search of the pet photo to spot fakes.

Check the breeder or seller's reputation on BBB.org. Beware of "too good to be true" offers and consider adopting a pet from a local shelter instead.
