Semi hits, kills pedestrian in Chicago Lawn: police

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A semi hit and killed a pedestrian on Chicago's Southwest Side on Monday night, police said.

Police said the crash happened in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood's 6300-block of South Western Avenue around 6:10 p.m.

A female pedestrian, whose age was not immediately known, was standing near the street when the truck, which was heading northbound on Western Avenue, hit her, police said.

She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity was not immediately released.

CPD's Major Accidents Unit is investigating.

Officials did not immediately provide further information.
