CHICAGO (WLS) -- Quinton Evans has been charged in the shooting death of a 16-year-old who was a former member of the Jesse White tumbling team, police said.

Evans, 19, was arrested Monday for criminal trespass in an unrelated incident, police said, but was then charged in the fatal shooting after further investigation.

Devonshay Lofton, 16, was shot in the back in the 1300-block of N. Cleveland Avenue around 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 18, police said. He was then transported to Northwestern Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Secretary White previously described Lofton as highly respected and well-mannered. He was reportedly with the team for six years, but left it this summer.
