CHICAGO (WLS) -- Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers coach and formerly of the Chicago Bears, got his family out of their home in Charlotte, N.C., after a fire broke out early Monday.

Rivera said he heard fire detectors going off around 4 a.m. He got his wife, his two brothers and their wives out of the house safely. Fire officials reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when they arrived.

No one was injured in the blaze. It took 56 firefighters more than an hour to put out the flames. Television video showed blackened windows in the attic of the 7,000-square foot home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rivera played for the Bears from 1984-1992 and was the team's defensive coordinator from 2004-2007.
