CHICAGO (WLS) -- Some of Chicago's suburbs have made a list of the Safest Cities in the country.

Lake in the Hills ranked sixth, followed by Bartlett at eighth and Buffalo Grove at 18th, according to Neighborhood Scout.

The ratings were created using raw data from 18,000 law enforcement agencies around the country, and take into account the population of the community and the rate of a number of different crimes per 1,000 residents. Crime types include armed robbery, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, aggravated assault, rape and murder.

Three more suburbs ranked in the top 50: Wheaton at no. 21, Huntley at no. 35 and Mundelein at no. 38. In the overall top 100 are Hanover Park (56), Palatine (59), Arlington Heights (66), Carol Stream (69), Northbrook (74), Mount Prospect (84), Elmhurst (87), Hoffman Estates (90) and Highland Park (99).
