CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign kicked off in mid-November. By now, you've likely heard the bells ringing and maybe even made a donation yourself.

The organization hopes to raise $15 million, more than in past years. That money is crucial for the Salvation Army's programs - not only during the holidays, but year-round.

We're joined by Major Greg Thompson, General Secretary of the Salvation Army Metro Division. He talks about the help his organization provides and even reveals the origin of the red kettle.
