7 students sickened by prescription meds at Chicago school

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Seven Chicago Public Schools elementary students were taken to local hospitals Friday morning when they became ill from taking medication.

The Chicago Fire Department said the students, ages 12, 13 and 14, became ill around 10 a.m. from sharing prescription medication one of the students brought from home. They all attend the William Seward Communication Arts Elementary School at 4600 S. Hermitage.

CPS and police are investigating.

The students were taken to four different hospitals.

One of the victim's mothers said a boy was selling it. Her son said he thought the pill wouldn't affect him, but then he started feeling dizzy.

School administrators immediately contacted emergency personnel and families of the affected students, and the incident is being thoroughly investigated," a Chicago Public Schools statement said.
