CHICAGO (WLS) -- Woodfield Mall in northwest suburban Schaumburg will be getting a fresh look.
Simon, the mall's owner, announced plans on Tuesday to enhance guests' shopping experience by transforming the interior.
The Grand Court will get new glass railings and ceramic flooring. The two existing elevators will be replaced and a new large-capacity elevator will be installed, along with two new escalators. Simon also plans to put down new carpet on the upper level, plush seating and improved signage.
Simon said shoppers are only expected to experience minimal interference during construction. The project is expected to begin in January and finish before the end of the year.
Woodfield Mall, which opened in 1971, is one of the biggest shopping centers in America, housing nearly 300 stores and restaurants. It is located about 25 miles from downtown Chicago.
