DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) -- Thousands of worshipers were expected to gather Sunday night for a holy pilgrimage as part of the annual overnight celebration of the Feast of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in northwest suburban Des Plaines.
They begin at the Shrine at Maryville Academy and then walked to the Shrine in Des Plaines.
On Sunday, they brought flowers, candles and strong religious faith.
They were not deterred by bad weather.
"The snow doesn't matter. If you have faith you're going to come," said Jackie De La Cruz.
Cardinal Blase Cupich is scheduled to celebrate Mass there at 5 a.m. Monday. Streets near the Shrine will be closed on both days.
