Chicago area woman celebrates 106th birthday

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A very special woman celebrating her 106th birthday is making Chicago proud!

Rose Marie Gilio was born on June 5, 1911. They held a party for her Monday at Autumn Leaves in Orland Park.

Rose was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where she grew up with 11 brothers and sisters and her father worked in a mine.

"I lived in Ishpeming, I was born in Ishpeming. We had the hills in back [of our house.] We tap danced... we did everything on that hill," she recalled.

Rose moved to Chicago in the 1930s, where she worked at a paper factory for many years. She lived on Erie Street for 80 years, and a section of Erie was named in her honor when she turned 100.

She has two children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

To celebrate her birthday, she even did a little dancing - just like the old days!
