The Chicago White Sox put All-Star Lance Lynn on the 10-day injured list because of right knee inflammation Tuesday, then saw fellow right-handerLucas Giolito leave his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates because of left hamstring tightness.

Giolito, 27, exited in the fifth inning not long after fielding a ground ball awkwardly off the bat of Ben Gamel. The injury occurred a few pitches later, but Gilito wasn't sure if it was related to the fielding play.

After being checked out, he attempted to continue with his outing but threw a wild pitch while clearly favoring his left leg. Eventually, manager Tony La Russa and the training staff came out to the mound, and Giolito was pulled in favor of reliever Ryan Tepera.

"I pulled my hammy a little bit," Giolito said after the 4-2 win. "It was a couple pitches after that swinging bunt play. It reminded me of the feeling in 2019 when I pulled my hamstring but it wasn't as intense, so that's why I wanted to keep going and see how I felt, but it didn't want to hold strong, so that's why I came out of the game."

The team said Giolito will be reevaluated on Wednesday. He was asked how long he might be out of action.

"I can't see it being very long," he said.

Lynn went on the IL because of the knee ailment, which has bothered him for several starts.

"It's doing all right," Lynn said. "Hopefully we can use this time here to catch up with it. The schedule works out where we can get back, if not ahead, at least somewhat even with it, where I can manage it start by start. It's ahead of us on the treatment side. We're going to catch back up."

The 34-year-old Lynn is 10-4 with a 2.59 ERA and 152 strikeouts in his first season with the White Sox. He signed a two-year, $38 million extension with the team in July. The IL move is retroactive to Aug. 29.

Reynaldo Lopez will take Lynn's turn in the rotation. With off days, the White Sox think Lynn will miss only one start.

In a related roster move, the White Sox recalled infielder Danny Mendick from Triple-A Charlotte.
