Veteran infielder Jason Kipnis agrees to minor league deal with Cubs

The Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with second baseman Jason Kipnis that includes an invitation to big league camp for spring training, according to ESPN and multiple reports.



Kipnis, an Illinois native, spent the previous nine seasons with the Cleveland Indians.



A two-time All-Star who has battled injuries, he has totaled 70 home runs over 514 games the past four seasons.



Kipnis, 32, is expected to compete with rookie Nico Hoerner and Daniel Descalso for the starting job at second.
