The Friendly Confines will once again moonlight as a football stadium as Wrigley Field will host a Big Ten game between Northwesternand Wisconsinduring the 2020 season, it was announced Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to return to one of the truly iconic venues in all of sports," Northwestern vice president for athletics Jim Phillips said in a statement. "... This is a date that college football fans across the country will be looking forward to until it arrives."
Northwestern last played at the home of theChicago Cubsin 2010 when it hosted Illinois, a game best remembered for the teams using only one end zone because of safety concerns. Recent renovations to the ballpark will create enough space for a field with two usable end zones for Northwestern and Wisconsin on Nov. 7, 2020.
The Wildcats, since signing an agreement with the venue in 2013, have also played lacrosse and college baseball games at Wrigley Field.
