Chicago Magazine has come out with its list of 2015 Chicagoans of the Year. On the list is Stacy Ratner, who the magazine calls "The Reading Rebel" for her literacy outreach programs.
Her store, Open Books, started as a project in her garage and has grown to two locations that sell used books. The proceeds go toward helping kids learn to read.
She has turned her love of reading into a passion to help others learn to read.
Ratner also created the Chicago Literacy Alliance. She found that there were many small non-profits just like hers that were doing the same thing so she created the alliance to bring them together so they could advance their cause.
