Student teachers to undergo stricter background checks

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Student teachers in Illinois will soon have to go through a detailed background check before they can work in a classroom.

It's the same process teachers in the state currently go through. It includes fingerprint analysis and a sex-offender database check.

The law goes into effect January 1.
