Freight train derails, overturns in Minooka

MINOOKA, Ill. (WLS) -- A freight train derailed and overturned Thursday morning in Minooka.

Three tanker cars derailed just before 9 a.m. on South Tabler Road near Aux Sable Liquid Product Company, according to the Minooka Fire Protection District.

Chopper 7 was over the scene and captured the extent of the damage.

You can see one of the trains apparently did not stop in the rail yard. It appears that it then crossed over a street and into a field.

South Talber road is closed and will remain so for an undetermined amount of time while the train cars are recovered from the road, according to Minooka fire officials. The highway department will also survey and repair any damage to the road.

Officials said no one was hurt in the incident and that the tankers were empty at the time.

The cause of the derailment is not yet know and under investigation.
