DEERFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- A semi rolled over and landed on top of a car on the southbound Tri-State Tollway just past Half Day Road.
Illinois State Police said two cars and a semi were involved in a crash around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday. One of the cars was wedged between the truck's cab and tanker trailer on the left shoulder. About 500 pounds of granular corn spilled onto the road.
Deerfield-Bannockburn fire officials said the three drivers were able to get themselves out of their vehicles before first responders arrived. All three were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash.
The two left lanes of the southbound Tri-State were closed near Route 22 for nearly three hours as crews cleared the scene and investigators looked into the cause of the crash. All lanes were back open by around 8:30 a.m.
Traffic was backed up from Half Day Road to Milwaukee Avenue in north suburban Gurnee at the height of the morning rush.
