CHICAGO (WLS) -- Before eating Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday many athletes headed to the Lincoln Park for the annual Turkey Day Run.
About 8,500 people showed up for the 38th annual run and walk.
Some cancer survivors participated along with support from family and friends.
The event also collected food donations for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
One of the athletes participating was Amy Donahue, who lost part of her leg to cancer. Her family turned out to show their support.
"I think we're all blessed to have and friends that just show so much love and have been there emotionally and physically to lift me and guide me and to walk alongside me today," Donahue said.
