Waukegan police investigate same-day armed robberies

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- Waukegan police are investigating two armed robberies that may be linked to others in Gurnee, Zion and Round Lake, officials said.



Rainbow Kids, in the 1300-block of N. Lewis Avenue in Waukegan was allegedly robbed around 8:30 p.m. Monday, police said. The same day, Family Dollar, located in the 1100-block of Washington Street in Waukegan, was also allegedly robbed around 9:15 p.m. Cash was taken in both incidents, which involved handgun, police said.



In both robberies, the suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall African American male.



Based on this description, police are investigating the possibility that these incidents may be related to the following reported robberies:



  • Daisy's Quick Mart, 700-block of S. Milwaukee Avenue in Gurnee around 5 p.m. on Aug. 4

  • The Family Dollar, 1200-block of Barnhart Court in Zion around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday

  • The Dollar General, 200-block of W. Washington Street in Round Lake around 10 p.m. Tuesday
