Fallen trees damage property in south suburbs
Severe storms hit the south suburbs, knocking trees onto homes in Calumet City and Harvey.

CALUMET CITY, Ill. (WLS) -- Severe storms knocked down a number of trees in the south suburbs, damaging property in Calumet City and Harvey.

"I was sleeping. I just heard this loud crash," Calumet City resident Carla McCall said. "I got up and looked and it was in the bathroom and it was on the back porch."

Another Calumet City resident was doubly impacted by fallen trees. A large tree crashed into the roof of the home and a tree in a neighboring yard fell over a fence onto the same homeowner's car Monday night. Emergency crews responded to the home as storms rolled through the area. Officials said the home was occupied when the tree fell, but no one was injured.

"That's a real big bad damage. I mean you got front and back damage. Her car and her house," neighbor Patricia Curry said. "How unlucky is that?"

Tree limbs fell on Robert Clark's home and littered the surrounding pavement in Harvey.

"A limb had come through the roof of my garage, three inches from my truck," Harvey resident Robert Clark said. "It was dark when I left home so I didn't see all the other damage it could have done."
