AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A crow collected from Campton Township in Kane County has tested positive for West Nile virus, Kane County Health officials said in a statement.

Although this is the first positive bird in Kane County, six other counties in Illinois have seen birds or mosquitoes test positive for the virus so far this year, officials said.

Kane County had no human cases of the virus last year, though officials said the county usually does not see its first positive bird until later in the summer. The virus is transmitted through mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds.
