Family, friends mourn man who died after Wrigley Field fall

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Family and friends are mourning the death of a suburban Wheaton man who died after a fall at Wrigley Field.

Richard Garrity died after tumbling over a railing at Wrigley Field after a Cubs game. Police said shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, the man fell over a railing onto his head. He was taken by private ambulance to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said. He died Wednesday afternoon.

Richard or Rick Garrity's friends and neighbors told ABC 7 off camera that he was a family man and was often seen out with his kids in his front yard in Wheaton.

Friends said Garrity's family is heartbroken and mourning the loss of a father and son.

Garrity was a marketing manager for Heineken and lived in Wheaton.

In a statement the brewing company said:

"Rick was a member of our organization for the last 10 years, most recently serving as a market manager in Chicago. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and two children and we are committed to supporting them through this incredibly difficult time."

The Chicago Cubs issued this statement:

"Paramedics responded immediately and transported him to a local hospital. The thoughts and prayers of our entire organization are with his family during this difficult time."

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Garrity died of craniocerebral injuries.

The family politely declined our request for any comment.
