ZION, Ill. (WLS) -- City leaders in north suburban Zion are asking for state and federal help to clean up the closed nuclear power plant.

The 400-acre site along Lake Michigan closed nearly 20 years ago.

Now, there are more than two million pounds of old nuclear fuel rods.

Zion's mayor said plant operators are not sticking to the deal to clean up the site.

The plant operated from 1974 to 1998.
