Study: Surgery better to treat acid reflux

March 17, 2010 That's the finding of a new study by the health services research unit at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom.

It found surgery is more effective than medication at reducing reflux symptoms over one year. However, whether the benefits are sustained over longer periods remains to be seen.

More research needs to be done to see whether the differences in effectiveness between the two treatment options remain the same, diminish or increase over the long term.
