SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- Amtrak riders could see fewer trains -- and higher fares -- under Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's proposed budget.
That's the warning from the Midwest High-Speed Rail Association.
Rauner has announced a 40-percent reduction in Amtrak funding beginning July 1.
In a statement from the governor's office, Rauner said that state House Speaker Mike Madigan passed a budget that has a $4 billion shortfall and the governor is taking steps to manage a hole in Madigan's budget proposal.
