Mayor cuts ribbon on new senior housing facility

CHICAGO

Mayor Daley held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning for the Auburn Gresham Senior Suites, 1050 W. 79th St.

The six-story building features 85 units, as well as a fitness room, a computer room and a senior service center. Housing is available to seniors 62 or older whose income meets federal guidelines.

"This is our home, and we have a beautiful home, I don't need a piece of paper for me to speak the truth," said Bernice Liddell, resident. "Our manager is great, they called up in the morning trying to check on us, if we haven't called down or checked in or pushed the button or something."

Through the Chicago Housing Authority, 17 of the units will be available to seniors who have Housing Choice Vouchers.
