Local student headed to National Spelling Bee

An eighth grader, Rose Sloan, from Roosevelt Middle School in River Forest will compete among 288 champion spellers in this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. on May 29 and May 20.

This will be Sloan's second year participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Last year she reached the semi-finals and tied for 34th place.
