Nader to file nominating petitions

Ralph Nader's campaign says it is ready to file the independent presidential candidate's nominating petitions in Illinois. The Nader campaign plans to file petitions with more than 50,000 signatures with the state Board of Elections on Monday. That would be double the number of petitions required to appear on the November ballot.

As the Green Party candidate, Nader finished third in Illinois in 2000 with more than 103,000 votes. In 2004, while challenging ballot access rules, Nader got slightly more than 3,500 votes in Illinois as a write-in.

Nader is mounting similar petition drives to get on the ballot in other states, promoting a single-payer, government funded health-care system while blaming government support for ethanol as a leading cause for increased food prices.
