Study: Liver transplant donor's age not a health factor

St. Louis researchers found that liver transplant patients who received an organ from a donor age 60 or older do just as well as patients receiving a liver from younger donor.

The study analyzed data from 485 adult liver transplants. The group hopes the findings will convince transplant centers to be more willing to use livers from older donors.

In 2006 around 10 percent of almost 17,000 people on the US liver transplant waiting list died while waiting for a suitable donor organ.
