Some students get reduced CTA fares

CHICAGO Students at 48 schools will receive a CTA reduced fare card with their school IDs.

The arrangement is intended to increase transit use by students and cut administrative costs in the current reduced-fare program.

Ninety-thousand students are eligible to ride CTA trains and buses for 85 cents -- and 15 cents for a transfer -- on school days between 5:30 in the morning and 8 at night.

The CTA plans to extend the program to all Chicago public high schools within 18 months.
