Our guest on this week's NewsViews is Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis. Among other issues, we'll talk about murders. Chicago had 510 murders last year, a 15 percent jump from the 445 in 2007.

But we'll also point out that last month, Chicago had only 24 murders, a drop of about 30 percent from the 34 murders in January, 2008. Weis credits a new Mobile Strike Force, and we'll ask what that is, and why he believes it will continue to reduce the number of murders.

We'll also cover other issues, such as how city budget cuts are affecting his ability to deploy sufficient officers, and the incredible case of a 14-year-old boy impersonating an officer and patrolling for 5 hours in a squad car.
