The homeless in some of Chicago's most affected areas received a helping hand thursday. The first Homeless Resource Fair was held at St. Matthew Church in the 1000-block of North Orleans. That's located in the 18th District, where, along with the 1st District, have high rates of homelessness.

The fair is sponsored by more than 20 organizations that can provide services such as counseling, housing, jobs and veterans services to help get the homeless off the streets.

Five additional fairs are planned. The next one is scheduled for April.
