Lack of support for parade in Evergreen Park

April 9, 2009 Mayor James Sexton told village board members on Wednesday night the response coming into his office is split. He said the village would only move forward with parade plans if it had strong support from residents.

E-mails from residents raise concerns about traffic and the village's ability to provide ample police coverage.

Organizers of the South Side Irish parade cancelled the parade last month, saying it had grown too large and strayed from its roots as a family festival in Chicago's Beverly and Morgan Park neighborhoods.
