Schallman has health problems and says his cats are very important.
"Daddy's alive, honey, daddy's okay. You two are angels, you both are angels, you survived the fire," said Schallman.
Schallman now has to find a new apartment.
More than 2 dozen families were displaced by the fire, which is still under investigation.
