ABC7's Paul Meincke spoke at the event which also honored Police Detective Joseph Airhart. He died in November from wounds he received while trying to arrest a serial bank robber in 2001.
Paul Meincke was involved in hostage negotiations after Airhart was shot. At the time, Airhart was assigned to Chicago's FBI's violent crimes task force.
