Man allegedly steals valuable viola

June 5, 2009 (CHICAGO) The Gand and Bernadel Viola, circa 1877, and the Louis Panormo viola bow have a combined worth of over $100,000.

Henry Cuevas, 25, of the 1000-block of North Pulaski was charged with felony theft Friday afternoon. He was identified by the victim as the person who grabbed the case containing the instrument and later phoned the victim demanding ransom for its return.

The viola and bow was returned to the owner. There was no damage to the instruments.

Cuevas is scheduled to appear in central bond court on June 6, 2009.
