CPS summer school kicks off

June 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) Three hundred and fifty city public schools are now open for the summer session.

More than 100,000 students will be able to participate in academic and recreational programs.

Chicago public schools CEO Ron Huberman says despite the budget deficit. CPS will not cut back on city summer school programs.

Huberman adds that summer school is a good way to help kids have a safe and productive summer.

"Summer school an important part of our ongoing effort to make sure students are learning throughout the year and engaged in positive, constructive studies," said Ron Huberman, CPS CEO.

Huberman says 67 more city schools will be added for year-round learning programs.
