A judge has approved a $10 million settlement for the family of a man who died after falling down an elevator shaft. It happened in November 2007 inside a building located at Clark and Wacker.

Ernesto Oliva, 41, was a carpenter working on the 11th floor.

Lawyers for his family say he fell more than 100 feet down the elevator shaft. They say a code violation and safety flaws led to the fall.

Attempts to reach the attorneys for the building's owner for comment were unsuccessful.
