Chicago-area Catholics go to Springfield to lobby for schools

Members of several Catholic parishes spent the day lobbying in Springfield.

They loaded up a chartered bus in Park Ridge early Wednesday morning. They joined Cardinal Francis George and bishops from six Illinois dioceses for a mass in Springfield as well as attending individual meetings with legislators.

Among the issues in the lobbying effort: Funding for parochial schools and support for a bill on tuition vouchers for inner-city public school students to attend nearby private schools.
