Study: Some babies more likely to die sleep-related deaths

April 2, 2010 (CHICAGO) Researchers analyzed Illinois data on infant deaths due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unintentional suffocation in bed and undetermined causes.

They found most of the infant deaths occurred when an infant was in an unsafe sleep situation, such as sharing a bed with an adult or sleeping alone on a couch.

Experts say infants should go to sleep on their backs in a safety-approved crib with a firm mattress.
