Patrick Daley has been placed on inactive duty in the Army to undergo surgery.

He is the son of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. The mayor's office says an orthopedic problem was discovered while he was preparing for re-deployment overseas and it must be taken care of before he returns to active duty.

Daley served a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He enlisted in 2004.
