It was one of several measures Mayor Daley announced Monday. He hopes vendors understand that the bad economy demands that the city take steps to cut spending.
"This is a good thing, this is a good concept. We're trying to keep government going. That's what you're trying to do. We don't have a well here with money sitting here. So that is the issue. We're trying to keep contracts going and everything else and them getting paid," said Daley.
Other cuts include a pilot program to reduce janitorial services at City Hall and locking in a lower price for natural gas.
